WHY IN NEWS
Google One's virtual private network (VPN) service for iOS users has begun to roll out. The change comes more than a year after the subscription-based cloud storage business launched its Android VPN service. To receive VPN access on iOS, customers must choose a Google One Premium subscription with 2TB or more storage, just like they must on Android. Users may share their VPN and cloud storage with up to five friends, regardless of whether they use an iPhone or an Android smartphone. In a blog post announcing the change, Google One Vice President Larissa Fontaine noted that the VPN is now available on iOS devices, allowing more people to connect to the Internet safely.

It's worth noting that Google One's VPN is now only available in 18 countries across the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. India is not one of the nations that has access to the feature. Google, on the other hand, plans to expand it to other nations in the future. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland are among the ten new nations it has just added. In October of last year, the VPN capability was first released for Android in the United States. It's available if you choose a 2TB or higher plan. VPN by Google One added three new capabilities to Android in addition to its iOS debut. The first is Safe Disconnect, which allows users to access the Internet only when the VPN is turned on. There's also an App Bypass function that lets you utilise a regular connection instead of the VPN for certain apps. Snooze, the final new feature, allows users to momentarily disable the VPN.

'We'll continue to introduce more security features and advantages to our Premium subscriptions so you can rest certain that your data is protected,' Fontaine added. The Internet of Secure Things Alliance has validated the Google One VPN (ioXt). It also boasts of passing all eight of ioXt's security criteria. Google also says that its client libraries are open source and that its end-to-end systems have been examined independently.
